How to Edit the Wiki
A "wiki" is a website that lets you change its webpages inside your webbrowser. This guide tells you how change the webpages on Sasona's wiki.
Editing an existing page
Go to "http://wiki.sasona.org" in a webbrowser (such as Chrome, Safari, or Firefox)
Log in (You can get a username and password from MastodonOverblower.)
Click or Search to get to the page you want to edit. (For example, "HouseVotes")
Click "Edit (GUI)" (It is in the upper left, next to "Edit (Text)")
- Make your changes.
- Click the "Preview" button to see what your changes will look like
Write a comment (such as "updated laundry rules based on house vote on 2042-4-2")
Answer the trivia question
- The trivia question is there to keep out hackers
- The answer is text. So "two" instead of "2".
- Click the "Save Changes" button
Check at the top the of the page for any errors
- If you were successful, it says "Thank you for your changes. Your attention to detail is appreciated."
If you see an error that mentions "TextCha", it is because you didn't answer the trivia question!
Some helpers:
- To see the Comment box or "Preview"/"Save Changes" buttons, you may need to scroll using the outer-most scroll bar.
To remove formatting (like highlighting) use the "eraser" icon, which is to the right of the BIUABC icons
- To remove a bullet, click the "bullet" icon. (It both adds and removes bullets!)
Some features, like editing tables, are only availble when you use "Edit (Text)" instead of "Edit (GUI)". This isn't very difficult, but can confuse new users. Ask an expert to help you the first time.
Adding a photo
Adding a photo is complicated. You must add the photo as an attachment to the page and then insert the photo into the wikipage. To insert the photo, you need to use "Edit (Text)"!
So, the first step is to add the photo as an attachment to the page:
Navigate to the page where you want to add the photo. (For example, "HousePlan".)
- Click on "Attachments". (It is the right of "Edit (Text)" and "Edit (GUI)"
- Click "Browse..." below the text "File to upload:".
- Select the photo file.
Answer the trivia question
- The trivia question is there to keep out hackers
- The answer is text. So "two" instead of "2".
- Click "Upload".
You should see the file in the list of "Attached Files" at the bottom of the page.
Once the photo is attached, you can insert the photo by:
Navigate to the page where you want to add the photo. (For example, "HousePlan".)
- Click on "Edit (Text)"
- Find where you want to add the photo
Type "{{attachment:image.png}}" where "image.png" is the name of the file.
Do steps 6 thru 10 of saving a webpage: click "Preview", write comment, answer trivia question, click "Save Changes", check for errors.
To add a smaller version of the image, use: "{{attachment:image.jpg|width="100"}} ".
Our wikipage HousePlan has small images of rooms with links to the larger images. Those look like: "[[attachment:image.jpg| {{attachment:image.jpg|width="100"}}]]".
Adding a new page
To add a page, scroll down to the bottom of the front page and click on "Edit (Text)" on the bottom left. Type space, asterisk, space to add a bullet point, then type the name of your new page without any spaces, and each word capitalized. For example: MemberRentsAndDates is an appropriate page name, but memberrentsanddates doesn't work.
Once your page is created, click "Save Changes." Your new page name will be grey. Click on the page name and choose "Create a new page" or whatever it says. Now you can begin adding stuff to it. Once you've added stuff, the page name should turn blue. For example, YourMomma is grey, but WishList is blue.
Adding attachments
See "adding a photo" above. The first step in that description is how to upload file to the list of possible attachments on a webpage.
Once the file is uploaded, you can link to it with "[[attachment:file.txt]] for a file named "file.txt".
