Free Pile
The free pile is a pile of items that people are giving away. Anyone can take or give to the free pile. About once-a-month, someone takes items to Goodwill.
The free pile is located in the short hallway off the kitchen, that is neither Dark Side nor Bright Side.
Free Pile Etiquette
- No furniture. Post the item(s) on SLACK or via email instead and if nobody wants it then you have to take it for Goodwill yourself.
- Keep in mind items that aren’t accepted by Goodwill. These things should not go into the free pile. Items that aren’t accepted by Goodwill:
- Personal care items such as shampoo, conditioner, nail polish remover, shaving cream, hairsprays, perfumes (put this on GUFF shelf in blue bathroom if someone else would actually want to use it)
- Broken or soiled items (including underwear that is not in high-quality condition)
- Any item(s) covered in animal hair
- Items that are wet, mildewed, rusty, flammable, or in any way dangerous
- Used bike helmets
- Put things here you think someone else in the house might actually want, not trash.
- When sorting through, try to keep things tidy and organized. Keep the hallway clear, being considerate of people passing by to the bathroom.
- If you cleaned a large amount of items out of a common space such as during labor holiday or during a deep clean of shelves or closets, take the items directly to Goodwill yourself rather than putting it in the free pile for someone else to take care of.
